Smith Statement on The President’s Provisions for Columbia River Channel Deepening

WASHINGTON, DC– Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) issued the following statement on the $15 million included for the Columbia River Channel Deepening Project in President George Bush’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2006.

“Deepening the Columbia River Channel is integral to keeping Oregon products competitive in the world’s marketplace. The President is maintaining his commitment to the tens of thousands of Oregonians who depend on Columbia River commerce, and I’m going to do everything I can to ensure Congress fulfills that commitment. Funding the channel deepening project is a long process, but $15 million is a very promising beginning.”
