Port Orford to Receive Millions for Water and Waste Improvements
Smith, Wyden Announce both a Grant and Federal Loan Funds
WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden announced that the city of Port Orford will receive over $3 million to modify water and waste disposal from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The aid will be awarded in the form of a $1,000,000 grant and a $2,542,000 low-interest loan.
"These improvements provide a modified, more superior water management system to Port Orford ," said Smith. "Oregonians benefit collectively when cleaner more effective waste management is implemented in our towns and cities."
"This community demonstrated a compelling need to improve their water and waste disposal system," said Wyden. "Funding for infrastructure improvements can only benefit the livability of Port Orford."
The USDA approved the rural development aid to be used to modify and add to the existing outfall, including an ocean discharge, new effluent pumps, and abandonment of existing wastewater filters.
The USDA approved the federal loan to be paid back at 4.25 percent over the next 40 years.
