Smith, Wyden Announce Millions For Community, Housing Improvements

Salem, Keizer to Receive Over $2 Million For Local Housing and Livability Projects

Washington, DC- Today Senators Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) announced that the City of Salem and the City of Keizer will receive a total of $2,822,471 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This funding will provide public services and housing assistance to people who have low to moderate incomes. Housing assistance will include the development of infrastructure for multi-unit housing, rehabilitation or rental homeowner units, and aiding low and moderate income first-time home buyers.

The grants are as follows:

  • $1,780,000 a Community Development Block Grant
  • $1,042,471 for the Home Partnership Investment Program

"Much of this money goes directly to helping more Oregonians realize the American dream of home-ownership and dependable housing," said Smith. "These grants have the added benefit of bringing a higher standard of living to the community."

"These funds will help open the door for hardworking, deserving Oregonians to invest in and find affordable housing," said Wyden. "It's great to see much-needed funding come home to help improve the quality of life in Keizer and Salem."

Both grants were awarded to the Oregon 2003-2004 Consolidated Consortium Action Plan submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to improve Salem-Keizer area housing.
